All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== ::Alex Cemetery--Alex OK The Chickasha Express-Star Wednesday, 30 November 2005 WILLIAM ELWOOD "BILL" COPE William Elwood "Bill" Cope, age 87, of Duncan, Okla., died Monday, November 28, 2005, in Duncan, Okla. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. at Elk Avenue Church of Christ, Saturday, December 3, 2005, with Robert Teague officiating. Interment will be at 1:30 p.m. at Alex Cemetery in Alex, Okla., under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home. William E. "Bill" was born August 17, 1918 in Smithville, Tenn., to Magness and Josephine Zwingle Cope. He married Edna Faye McMasters on April 14, 1938 in Anadarko, Okla. She preceded him in death on February 29, 2004. Bill was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, serving from 1943 to 1955 in the United States Air Force. He worked for Sears-Roebuck and Montgomery Ward until 1963 and then worked 18 years as general manager for Stidham Horse Trailer manufacturing in Chickasha, retiring in 1980. Bill enjoyed working and was an ombudsman for nursing homes. He was honored for his work with the elderly in meeting various transportation needs. He was a volunteer for the Duncan and Comanche Public Schools systems and was also a private pilot. He was a member of Elk Avenue Church of Christ and was recently honored for being a charter member. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Earline & Royce Rochell of Comanche and Geraldine & Allen McGuire of Duncan, one son and a daughter-in-law, Billy Don and Iris Cope of Duncan, one brother, Fred Cope of Blanchard, Okla., nine grandchildren, Gaye Watson, Kay Bush, Kent McGuire, Roy Rochell, Holly Churchman, Kelli Colpitts, Kristi Davis and Kasee Kappel, and 24 great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a sister Nadell Pearson, a son Danny Copy, a grandson Ron Rochell in 1963 and a great grandson, Chase Watson, in 2005. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Roy Rochell, Kent McGuire, Tony McGuire, Colby Rochell, Kendell Rochell, Kenny Bush and Kim Watson. Memorial contributions may be sent to Berean Children's Home, c/o Mt. Olive Church of Christ, P.O. Box 1099; Brookhaven, Miss 39602-1009. The family appreciates the staff of Wilkins Nursing Center for taking very good care of Bill.
