Cheatham COMANCHE - Jack A. Cheatham, 79, a former longtime Comanche resident, died Thursday, June 27, 2002, in the Heartstone Assisted Living Facility in Oklahoma City. Service will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Patterson Avenue Baptist Church in Comanche with Pastor Bob Waitman officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Bailes-Polk Funeral Home. Mr. Cheatham was born Oct. 3, 1922, in Fort Cobb to Davis Irving and Mabel Opal Banks Cheatham. He served in the United States Army from July 2, 1942, to April 21, 1946. He married Helen Wiebe in 1950 in Dover and she preceded him in death on Nov. 26, 1993. He moved from Dover to Comanche in 1956 where he served as the Vocational Agriculture instructor for 20 years, at which time he became the Comanche High School principal and served as principal until his retirement in 1985. He was an avid sports fan and traveled to many Comanche High School sporting events. Survivors include a son, Dr. Don Cheatham of Oklahoma City; three brothers, Charles Cheatham of Midwest City, Clyde Cheatham of Crescent and Harold Cheatham of Sulphur Springs, Texas; a sister, Katie Jascula of Fort Bragg, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Celia Kaye Cheatham and Clinton Don Cheatham, both of Oklahoma City. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bill Cheatham. Bearers will be Bruce Akins, Gary Ledford, Tom Brack, Lynn Bowles, Jackie Evans, Gary John Waitman, C.P. Watson and Sammy Dunn.
