My mother was Blanche Downing Bird of Ninnekah) from Anadarko, Oklahoma newspaper [name and date of newspaper unknown]: "Mrs. George Nixon's Mother Died Sunday" Amanda [Hinton] Downing, wife of J. L. Downing, was born November 13,1850 in Lancaster, Ohio; passed from this life at her home in Washita, Sunday evening, March 24, 1929, being 76 years, 2 months, and 24 days of age. [sic] At the age of 25 years she was married to Abner Harrold, who preceded her to the other world in 1883. To this union were born three sons, one of whom passed from this life in 1923; W. H. Harrold, who was at her bedside when death came, and H. E. Harrold of Portersville, Calif. She was married to J. L. Downing in 1888. To this union were born one son, O. P. Downing of Washita, and two daughters, Mrs. Blanche Bird of Ninnekah, Okla., and Mrs. Ruby Ellison of Clarendon, Texas. Besides these five children she leaves her husband, J. L. Downing, and seven step-children--Mrs. George Nixon of Anadarko, Mrs. Lon Dietrich of Honeywell, Kansas; Charley Downing of Honeywell; David Downing of Kansas City, Mo.; Shaw Downing of Chickasha; Cliff Downing of Wichita, Kansas; and Ralph Downing of South Haven, Kansas; twenty-four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and a number of other relatives and a host of friends. Mrs. Downing moved with her parents from Ohio to Indiana at the age of eight years and lived there until 1872 when she moved to Kansas, living there until she moved to Washita in 1903, where she had lived and made many close friends. She was converted in early life and united with the Christian church and lived her life in this faith. She has been a faithful wife and mother. The end of her life here to us is only the beginning with the Heavenly Father who knows what is best for his children. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. D. M. Parker. Internment was in the Anadarko cemetery under direction of Farmer & Grimmett.
