All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== ::Fairlawn Cemetery--Chickasha OK © The Chickasha Express-Star 13 May 2004 Garnett Emily Dryden Funeral service for Garnett Emily Dryden, 94, long-time resident of Grady County, will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, May 14, 2004, in the Chapel of Sevier Funeral Home. Garnett Emily Dryden was born January 6, 1910, on land known as the Porter place near Cement, Oklahoma, to Willis James and Emily (Doss) Rider, and passed away May 11, 2004, in Chickasha. Garnett attended Fairview School through the 12th grade. She enjoyed playing basketball and was the forward for her team. After high school, she attended Central State University in 1927. William Howard Dryden watched Garnett play basketball at Fairview and would drive to Edmond to see her at college. On January 7, 1928 Howard and Garnett eloped to Guthrie to get married, the day after her 18th birthday! They lived on a farm northwest of Rush Springs and raised their family until 1943, when they moved to Chickasha. During World War II, Garnett worked as a cook in the nurse's mess hall at Borden General Park. From 1946-1950 she worked at Fry's Jewelry. From 1950 to 1958 Garnett worked at Cochran's Shoe Store, which later changed to Perkins & Roberts Shoes. She then went to work at the Chickasha Public Library for 16 years until she retired in 1975. Garnett was a Worthy Matron of Eastern Star. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Chickasha for almost 60 years. She even took up painting as a hobby when she was not cooking meals for her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Howard Dryden; infant son, William Dwayne Dryden; parents, Willis James and Emily Rider; only brother and his wife, Lawrence and Ruth Rider; two sons-in-law, Uville Ogle and W.M. Fenimore. Survivors include her two daughters, Lavetta Ogle of Oklahoma City and Barbara Fish of Chickasha; three grandchildren, Keith Ogle and wife Dianne of Mustang, Valerie Ferringer and husband Hugh of Midwest City; WM Fenimore, Jr.; five great grandchildren, Casei Ogle, Brian Ogle, Holly Ogle, Ian Ferringer, and Mark Ferringer; as well as many relatives and friends. Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.
