Service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Prairie Hill Church of Christ with Mario Pineda officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home in Comanche. Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. today in the funeral home. Mr. Flanagan was born on Jan. 19, 1920, in Saltillo, Miss., the first born son of Henry Francis and Etha Ester Scaggs Flanagan. At an early age he moved with the family to Oklahoma and lived near Hugo, Temple and Walters. He was in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Colorado and Wyoming. He retired in 1983 after 36 years of service with Sun Oil and Tosco Refining. He married Thelma Ruth Pfeffer on Jan. 8, 1942, in Bridgeport, Conn. They moved to Oklahoma, living in Cement, Chickasha and Walters. They moved to the Meridian community in 1949. A veteran of World War II, he served other three years with the U.S. Navy Seabees in the South Pacific. Mr. Flanagan was a member of the Prairie Hill Church of Christ, Comanche American Legion Post No. 258 and a life member of the National Rifle Association. Survivors include his wife, Ruth, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Jack Penn of Duncan; three sisters, Thelma Willard of Burneyville, Norman George, and Betty Stephenson, both of Texas; two brothers, Curtis Flanagan and Clayton Flanagan, both of Texas; a large number of nieces and nephews; many friends; and four neighborhood children, who to him were "adopted" and he loved dearly, Sarah, Danniell, Nathan and Shayna Milan. He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Ray Flanagan on Aug. 31, 1993.
