Franks Funeral services for George R. Franks, 65, of Chickasha will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 18, 2006, in the Bible Baptist Church with J. V. Lobaugh officiating. George R. Franks was born August 20, 1940, in Hobart, Oklahoma, the son of Hilburn R. Franks and Georgia M. Gamble Franks. He died March 15, 2006, in Oklahoma City. The Franks family moved to California when George was a young child, later returning to Chickasha where George attended and graduated from Chickasha High School in 1959. After graduation George joined the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Germany for three years. On September 11, 1957, George married his wife of 48 years, Joan [Harris] Franks. He went to work at the Chickasha Goodyear Store in 1962, where he was manager until 1983. He left the Chickasha store, moving his family to the Muskogee and Tahlequah area, where he and Joan owned and operated two Goodyear stores. In 1992, when they had the opportunity to purchase the Chickasha Goodyear Store they returned to Chickasha, where he worked until his returement on January 23, 2006. George was a devoted outdoorsman. He loved to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren, often taking them with him on his outdoor adventures. George was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He took a genuine interest in his family's lives, often placing more emphasis on their needs and well being rather than his own. George was preceded in death by both parents; infant son, Jimmy Franks; sister, Bonnie Baxter; infant brother, Fred Franks; and son-in-law, Keith Moon. He is survived by his wife Joan Franks, of the home; son, Steve Franks, of Ninnekah; daughter, Cynthia Moon, of Ninnekah; grandchildren: Brandi Lewis, of Chickasha, Stevie Franks, of Ninnekah, and Josh Franks and Krista Williams, of Norman; great grandson, Jacob Lewis of Chickasha; sister and brother-in-law: Edna and Paul Long, of Midwest City; and numerous nieces and nephews. Interment will be in the Memory Lane Cemetery in Anadarko under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Caddo County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/caddo/caddo.html
