All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Olustee Cemetery--Olustee OK Duncan Banner 8 Jul 2003 Minerva Otelia Sawyer Hughes ALTUS — Minerva Otelia Sawyer Hughes, 58, of Edmond died Wednesday, July 2, 2003, in Edmond. Service was at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Kincannon Funeral Home in Altus with the Rev. H.O. Ballard officiating. Burial was in Olustee Cemetery. Minerva was born June 29, 1945, in Lawton to Cecil and Ruby Sawyer. She married Lannie Hughes on July 6, 1973. She grew up in the Apache area and graduated from Broxton High School in 1963. She earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and master’s degree in reading from the University of Central Oklahoma. She taught school at Britton Elementary and Stone Gate schools in Oklahoma City, Martha and Navajo schools in Altus, and Russell Dougherty in Edmond. She retired from Cross Timber Elementary School in Edmond in 2000. Minerva enjoyed cooking, gardening and sewing. Survivors include her husband, Lannie, of the home; a sister and brother-in-law, Cecilia and Kenneth Richey of Duncan; a brother and sister-in-law, Cecil and Loretta Sawyer of Duncan; two nieces, Kim Richey of Bethany and Michelle and Derryl Telford and their daughter, Ila Joan of Highland Village, Texas; her mother-in-law, Adelia Hughes of Olustee; two sisters-in-law, Karla and Jerry Marquart of Duke, Nancy and Gary Carter of Houston, Texas; two nephews and their families, Mark and Sharon and their children, Amanda, and Emma Carter and Kacy Marquart of Duke; a niece, Mitzi Marquart of Cleburne, Texas; and numerous cousins and many close friends.
