Hodge, whose maiden name was Mary Etna Maxfield, was born April 20, 1850 at Greenville, Ill. She departed this life Oct. 30, 1925, being 75 years, 6 months and 10 days old. She was converted and joined the North M.E. church at Greenville at the age of fifteen and lived a good consistent life, faithful to her family, her friends, her country and her church. She had made her home for several years with her daughter, Mrs. Alec Geddes who with the entire family will miss her from this home circle. She was married to Alfred Myers in 1869. To this union two children were born, Charles Arthur of Army, Kans. and Lilly May who died in infancy. She was married to W.R. Hodge March 10, 1874. To this union ten children were born. One died in infancy. There remain J.W. Hodge and Mrs. Lula Adams of Army, Kans.; Mrs. Almiria Stephenson of Sask, Canada; R.F. Hodge of Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Irene Smith of Torrence, Calif.; Mrs. Mary Hicks of Kansas City, Mo.; and Mrs. Eva Geddes, B.H. Hodge, and C.J. Hodge of Alfalfa, all of whom are honorable and respected citizens. There are forty-three grandchildren and nine great grandchildren besides other relatives and a host of friends who mourn her departure. She was dressed in a soft gray gown of canton crepe which looked beautiful with her hair which had whitened with the frost of many years. Her casket was of gray pressed velvet with silver trimmings and the floral offerings were many and beautiful. Faithful hearts and willing hands attended her thru her illness to relieve her. She was laid to rest in the Alfalfa cemetery, Saturday, Oct. 31. Rev. Breece, pastor of the Methodist church conducted the funeral services. Chas. Myers and J.W. Hodge came to her bedside Thursday. Grandma Hodge was much loved by all who knew her, being kind and affectionate at all times especially with her children. We shall all miss her greatly, but realize that she has passed into the hands of a just Creator who doeth all things well, unto those who serve Him. We greatly sympathize with the bereaved ones. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Caddo County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/caddo/caddo.html
