HOLCOMB of Cogar was in town Saturday on his return from Shawnee, where he went Monday in response to a message that his son, Warren Holcomb, was dead in that city. The message was a great surprise to Mr. HOLCOMB, as he had not been notified of his son's illness, and was expecting him home any day for a visit. The young man was 25 years of age, and was employed as a lineman on the Rock Island. He contacted smallpox and was placed in the city pest house, where he died several days later Mr HOLCOMB fears through neglect. The remains were interred in Shawnee as they could not be shipped. The circumstances surrounding the young man's death make the case doubly sad and the family has the sympathy of the entire community.
