Officiating was the Rev. David Blalock, former pastor and the Rev. Bennie Mathews, chaplain from Hospice of Central Oklahoma. Burial was in Anadarko's Memory Lane Cemetery under the direction of the Steverson Funeral Home of Anadarko. Hammett was born 18-Sep-1916 in Gracemont, Caddo county, Ok. to Robert and Dezzie (Harris) Hammett. He married the former Neoma Thomas on 30-Sep-1972 in Chickasha. He grew up in Gracemont where he attended school. He entered the United States Army 22-Nov-1940. He was with the 69th Infantry Division, Battery C, 879 Field Artillery Battalion. He served as radio operator for the Forward Observer in the Rhineland Campaign. He received the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Ribbon, EAME Service Ribbon and the Bronze Service Star. He was honorably discharged 25-Jul-1945. He was then employed as an electrical contractor for the Post Engineers at Fort Sill, retiring after 28 years. He was a member of the Virginia Avenue Baptist Church in Anadarko. He served on the Anadarko City Council representing Ward III. He was a member of the Anadarko Country Club, the 69th Infantry Division Association and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Preceding him in death was his first wife, Ruby (Ricketts) Hammett; one son, Eddie Earl Hammett; his parents; four brothers, Godfrey, Clyde, Clark and Roger Hammett; two sisters, Wilma Moorehead and Velma Wallace. Survivors include his wife, one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Bob Thomasson of Anadarko; one daughter-in-law and her husband, Shirley and Bob Davis of Stonewall; five grandchildren, Clay Thomasson of Hydro, Ok., Matt Thomasson and his wife, Angie of Oklahoma City, Ok., Mike (Hammett) Davis and his wife, Ann, of Roanoke, Texas; Scott (Hammett) Davis and his wife, Kathy, of Oklahoma City, Ok., and Britt (Hammett Davis) Sutton of Piedmont, Ok.; eight great grandchildren, Tatum Tomasson, Joshua and Gabe Davis, Jessica, Jacob and Jonathan Sutton, and Kailee and Connor Davis; three sisters-in-law, Connie Hammett of Graham, Texas, Nema Freeman and her husband Bill of Broken Arrow, Ok., and Louise Ellis of Stillwell, Ok.; two brothers-in-law, John Thomas of Stillwell and Herman Thomas and his wife, Margaret, of Carlisle, Ark.; several nieces and nephews, including Bobbie Steenbergen of Yukon, Ok., Shirley Hitt and her husband Dale of Rush Springs, Ok., Ina Bell Herron of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Roy Hammett of Shawnee, Ok.
