The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. ===================================================================== Surnames: King, Sims, Miller, Hayes, Mitchell, Braggs, Jones Laree Elespa King 18-Apr-2000 Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, 21-Apr-2000 at the First Baptist Church in Apache for Laree Elespa King, 98, of Apache, who died 18-Apr-2000 at Pass Christian, Miss. Officiating at the services were Rev. Travis Wollenberg and Rev. Kenneth Hayes. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery at Apache under the direction of the Crews Funeral Home of Apache. Mrs. King was born 01-Jun-1901 in Gainesville, Mo. She married William J. 'Bill' King 20-Jun-1921 in Anadarko. She came to Oklahoma by covered wagon at the age of four. She originated the Farmerette Club in her home in 1938 and she remained an active member until she moved to Mississippi in 1990. She was a charter member of the Alathean Sunday School Class at the First Baptist Church in Apache where she taught Sunday School for 54 years. She had written several short stories that had been published and was well known for her poetry. She was awarded first place with a trophy and award in the Penmans Guild Oklahoma Heritage Writing Contest in 1989. She was selected Outstanding Senior Citizen at the Apache Senior Nutrition Center in 1981. She was chosen over all other entries in an eight-county area. Preceding her in death were her husband 14-Jun-1973; two sons, Paul Wayne King and Lloyd Raymond King; two brothers, Everett Sims and Phil Sims; and four sisters, Onvia Miller, Eunice Hayes, Elsie Mitchell and Hazel Braggs. Survivors include one son, two grandchildren, one step-grandson; one sister-in-law; 19 nieces and nephews and several grandnieces and nephews.
