STATE REP. JAMES KARDOKUS IS DEAD APACHE- State Rep. James M. Kardokus, who represented District 56, which includes most of Caddo County and parts of Grady and Comanche counties, died about 8 a.m. today in Lawton Memorial Hospital where he was admitted Monday suffering from pneumonia. Services are pending at the Crews Funeral Home in Apache for the 66 year old Apache resident. Election officials said today a special election would need to be called by the governor to fill the rest of Kardokus eighth term, which he had just begun after winning re-election last year. Kardokus, a Democrat, had served in the House of Representatives since 1970 after serving three terms from 1958 to 1964. During his term in office, he was vice-chairman of the house revenue and taxation committee, a member of the house rules committee and had served on the insurance, industrial development, and county state and federal government committees. He had also served on the oil and gas committee and the soil and water resources committee. He was born Nov. 20, 1912 at Eakly and was a graduate of Sickles High School. He and the former Beatrice Thompson were married Dec. 22, 1931 at Cordell. She died Jan 19, 1961. He married Opal Stuart July 23, 1964 at Las Vegas Nev. Kardokus was a member of the Apache Rotary Club, Apache chamber of Commerce and the First Christian Church of Apache. He was a farmer and the owner of the Kardokus Equipment Company in Apache and was a former mayor of Apache. Survivors include two sons, James Kerwin of Arlington, Va., and Stephen M. of Apache; one daughter, Nelda Jo Montgomery of sherman Oaks, Calif.; two step-daughters, Carolyn N. McBride of Anadarko and Sandra K. Hill of Norman; two brothers, Johnny of Fort Cobb and Frank of Zillah, Wash., and seven grandchildren.
