Lewellen Funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock Friday morning (23-Nov-1956) for Edward Lee Lewellen, who died at 4:04 Tuesday morning (20-Nov-1956) at the age of 87 years. Last rites will be in the Baptist Church at Cyril with Rev. Frank Jennings, pastor, officiating and Rev. J.C. Earl assisting. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery near Colony, under the direction of the Dalton Funeral Home of Fletcher. Bearers will be Earl Sandlin, H.H. Brandon, C.W. Gudka, Ralph Moss, Bill Sanders and Vernon Haas. 'Uncle Ed,' as Mr. Lewellen was known here by his friends, had been a resident of Cyril for 28 years. He is one of Caddo counties oldest citizens and served on the first grand jury in the county. He had been a member of the Baptist church since he was 23 years old and acted as a deacon in the local church. Edward Lewellen was born May 23, 1869 in Pike county, Mo., near Bowling Green, the son of Martha and Napoleon Lewellen. He made the run of '89 when he drew a plot of school land, which he turned back. In 1898 he married Leona Bell Raybourn at Annoda, Mo., and moved to Oklahoma in 1901, locating on a farm near Eakly. They remained on the farm until 1923 when he retired and moved to Weatherford. The couple moved to Cyril in 1928 and have made their home here since that time. Survivors are his wife, Leona Bell, of the home; two daughters, Miss Elizabeth Lewellen of Cyril and Mrs. G.O. Bartgis of Ardmore; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
