"Mac" McCartor, 87, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Ivy Chapel, 2820 Virginia Circle, with the Rev. Scott Greer, pastor of Paramount Terrace Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. McCartor was born in Shattuck, Okla. He received his bachelor's degree from Southwestern Oklahoma Institute of Technology and his master's degree in school administration from West Texas State University. During World War II he served in the Army Air Corps. In his early years, Mr. McCartor taught school in Oklahoma. After his discharge from the military he moved to Amarillo where he was an instructor and education officer at the Amarillo Air Base until his retirement. He was then involved in several businesses including as president of Southwest Speedway and M&M Music Co. He married Melba Walker in 1942 at Hinton, Okla. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jimmy Ray McCartor and Robert Dean McCartor, both of Amarillo; a brother, Don McCartor of Amarillo; a sister, Alta Nunes of Orland, Calif.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice, Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79176-0001.
