All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Norton, Majel Lee On Tuesday, September 10th, 2002, Majel Lee Norton, 91, went to be with her Lord and Saviour. She was born June 28th, 1911, at Lockesburg, Arkansas to Fred and Bertha Goodwin. Her spiritual birthday was November 25th, 1927. She is preceded in death by her husband, Tom Dent Norton; one brother, Vernon Fred Goodwin; one sister, Thelma Goodwin; and her parents Fred Lee and Bertha Mae Goodwin. She is survived by one son, Tom Dent Norton and wife Evelyn Sue of Durango, Colorado; one daughter, Trenda Sue Hunter and husband Terry of Midwest City, Oklahoma; 5 grandchildren, Sonja Norton of Boise, Idaho, Chris Tucker of Norman, Oklahoma, Misty Hunter of Pierre, South Dakota, Justin Hunter, Geoffrey Hunter both of Midwest City, Oklahoma; one great grandson, Austin Hunter of Midwest City, Oklahoma; three sisters, Violet Williams of Yukon, Oklahoma, Doris Roberts of Weatherford, Oklahoma, and Delma Powell of Marlow, Oklahoma; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. Majel and her parents lived in Lockesburg, Arkansas until the death of her infant sister Thelma in 1915, at which time, she moved to Troy, Oklahoma with her parents where they lived and maintained a small farm. On May 16th, 1928 she graduated from Troy High School as Valedictorian of her class. She furthered her education by attending school at East Central at Ada where she received her teaching certificate. She taught one year in Concrete, Oklahoma, 5 years in Troy, Oklahoma. During this time at Troy, she married her love, Tom Dent Norton on May 4th, 1940. She went on to teach one more year in Cement, Oklahoma. Majel then traveled to Huntington Park, California for a couple of years. Dent had taken a job as a carpenter, and she stayed with him until it was time to give birth to her first child, Tom. She then went back to San Diego, California where Dent was stationed as he had been drafted into the Navy. In 1945, they moved back to Cement after Dent was discharged out of the Navy. In 1949, she gave birth to her second child, Trenda Sue. After all the moving she had done over the years, Majel, Dent and their two children finally settled in Cement, Oklahoma where they established their home. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M., Friday, September 13, 2002 in the Bethel Temple Assembly of God Church located at 5401 Tinker Diagonal with interment at 2:00 P.M. in Oaklawn Cemetery, Sulphur, Oklahoma.
