Okerson died suddenly at the home of her son, Alva, in Selma, Calif., at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, according to a telegram received here by her brother, R.T. Slater. A Pitcher ambulance will meet the body in Chickasha at 6 p.m. Thursday. Time of the funeral has not been arranged, depending on the arrival of relatives, but services will be held in the Pitcher chapel and burial will be at Alden, Mrs. Virgil Owens, a granddaughter, said. Mrs. Okerson only recently left Carnegie to visit her relatives in california. She had just arrived and had visited her children, Mrs. Ernest Jones, Floyd, Raymond, Cecil and Alva. She was hanging out clothes when she died suddenly of a heart attack. Other relatives here are a daughter, Mrs. Ollie Steckman, and two grandson, George and Floyd Steckman. ========== The Carnegie Herald, Wed., June 28, 1944 Okerson Services Held Here Sunday Sevices for Mrs. E.S. Okerson who died in California June 17 were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Pitcher chapel and burial was in the Alden cemetery. Rev. Leroy Simmons preached the sermon. Abbie Slater was born Feb. 22, 1869, at Wellington, Kans. She was married to Edward S. Okerson and they came to Oklahoma and settled in the Alden community in 1900. Mr. Okerson died June 23, 1940. Mrs. Okerson was the first white child born in Wellington. At the age of 16 she joined the Methodist church. She was in California visiting her children when she suffered a heart attack. Survivors are four sons, Floyd and Raymond of Modesta, Alvie of Selma and Cecil of Stockton, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Ethel Jones of Stockton, Calif., and Mrs. Lottie Steckman of this place; one brother, R.T. Slater of this place. and one sister, Mrs. Linnie Barnes, Arkansas City, Kans. Services were held in Selma before the body was brought to Carnegie.
