All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Sunset Memorial Gardens--Lawton OK Becker Funeral Home Obit 24 May 2005 Johnnie Opal Olds Age 82, Apache, Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday in the First United Methodist Church, Elgin, with Rev. Blessing Yap, Pastor, officiating. Mrs. Olds died Tuesday in Norman. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home. She was born July 15, 1922 in Newton, Texas, to John Tom and Millie S. Travis Hardy. She grew up in Texas and graduated high school in Jasper, Texas, where she was a cheerleader for the high school football team. She married SFC (Retired) R.C. Olds on July 3, 1942 in Conroe, Texas. He preceded her in death on October 17, 1997. She earned her degree in nursing from the University of Texas at Galveston in September 1942 and retired in June 1982 from Reynolds Army Community Hospital at Fort Sill where she had worked as a registered nurse for 40 years in the labor & delivery room. She loved gardening, crocheting, her church and family dearly. She was a member of the Oklahoma Homemaker Community Education Group Edgewater Park Division and had won many blue ribbons at the fair, an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Elgin, the United Methodist Women's Association and the United Methodist Prayer Circle, the Elgin Senior Citizens Center and the Red Hatters of Rivermont in Norman. She had recently moved to Rivermont in Norman from her home in Edgewater Park. Survivors include two daughters and sons in law, Jeanette and Kerry Capshaw, Norman, and Jacqueline and Jimmy Pickens, Georgetown, Texas; eight grandchildren, David and Marc Pickens, Casi, Erin and Rick McCall, Aubrey, Garrett and Casey Capshaw; a sister, Helen Hardey, Washington; a great granddaughter, Hannah and her special friends of the "Shop". Her parents and four sisters preceded her in death.
