Penturf was born 25-Aug-1929 in Anadarko to Clarence D. and Nellie (Baker) Penturf. She grew up and attended schools in Anadarko. She retired after 32 years at the Sequoyah Carpet Mills, which was located in Anadarko. She worked for the Silver Crest Manor for a few years following her retirement. She was an honorary member of the Anadarko Riding Club. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Jean Elliott; and three brothers, Ward L., Thomas C. and Frank M.
