The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. ===================================================================== Surnames: Rogers, Roberts The Anadarko Tribune Jun. 09, 1927 Martha Ellen Roberts Rogers died 06-Jun-1927 Martha Ellen Roberts was born January 13, 1855 in DeKalb county, Missouri; died June 6, 1927, at 1:30 p.m. in Anadarko, Okla. She was the daughter of Moses and Eliza J. Roberts of DeKalb county, Mo. She was one of 13 children, six boys and seven girls. Three brothers and three sisters and father and mother preceded her to the better world. She was converted and united with the Hopewell Baptist Church of DeKalb county, Mo., and was baptized by Rev. Ben Wheeler in early life, there lived several years a Christian life and was married to Benjamin Harden Rogers Jan. 1, 1874 by Rev. F.E. Jewell. Afterward she moved her membership to Freedom Church, Gentry county, Mo., where she served as a faithful Christian wife of a deacon at that place and made many lasting friends. To this union were born eight children, four boys and four girls. Two died in infancy and one daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Hartley, who died April 22, 1920. Those left to mourn her loss are her husband, B.H. Rogers, five children, four of whom were at her bedside at the time of her death---M.C. and W.A. Rogers and family of Anadarko, Geo. H. Rogers and family of Sherden, Arkansas, who was unable to be at her bedside, Mrs. C.F. Ward and her family of Cement, Okla., and Mrs. H.H. Letterman and family of Anadarko. She had thirty grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, fourteen of whom were at her bedside, also one sister, Mrs. Eliza J. Leonard of Santa Rosa, Mo. and one sister-in-law, Alvina Roberts of Santa Rosa, Mo. and one brother, R.T. Roberts of Guthrie, Okla., and one nephew, Judson Savage, and wife, of Binger, Okla. Mr. and Mrs. Rogers moved to Oklahoma in 1904, where they have remained ever since and by their Christian living they have been an inspiration to all they have come to associate with. In her going the family will miss a loving wife, mother, sister, and the friends a devoted Christian character. Services will be held at the Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. W.T. Spradlin, assisted by Rev. J.J. Methvin. Interment was in Anadarko cemetery Wednesday, June 8.
