ROAN Funeral service for O. J. Roan, age 87 of Chickasha will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday March 22, 2005 at the College Heights Baptist Church in Chickasha. Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Onery Cemetery, Albert, Oklahoma. O. J. Roan was born April 16, 1917 at Fort Towsen, Oklahoma. He was the son of Don Pedro and Meta Lucille (Elliott) Roan. He died Saturday March 19, 2005 in Chickasha. Mr. Roan graduated from Oney High School in 1935. He attended Cameron Jr. College in Lawton. He later graduated with a Bachelor Degree from Southwestern University in Weatherford. He also held a Masters Degree from the University of Oklahoma. He married Juanita M. Henry at Ft. Cobb, Oklahoma April 19, 1941. He taught school part of that year at Oney before he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served during World War II. When he returned he continued to teach. He taught at Lookeba and then Fort Cobb and Broxton where he served as superintendent. He came to Chickasha in 1954. He was the principal at Northwest School, South, West and Southwest Schools. He finished his Educator career as Principal of Lincoln School. He retired in 1979. Mr. Roan was a charter member of College Heights Baptist Church. He served as President of the Grady County Retired Teachers Association. He was a member of the Red Red Rose and a menber of the Grady County Educators Hall of Fame. His wife Juanita M. Road preceded him in death in 1995. Survivors include his two daughters, Kay and Calvin Mott of Edmond and Paula and Douglas McBee of Norman; grandchildren, Joel and Lori Mott, Callie and Steve Fry, Christopher Roan McBee and Kimberly Rose McBee; great grandchildren, Lorin Elise Mott, Hayden Marjorie Mott, Bryson Viktor Mott and Baxter Ryan Fry. Other family members include brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and loving nieces and nephews. The casket will be open until 8:30 a.m. Tuesday and will not be opened at the service. Interment will be in the Oney Albert Cemetry, Albert, Oklahoma under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.
