Teakle, Souder, Driver, Sharp Originally posted at: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.oklahoma.counties.rogermills/8413/mb.ashx Melvin Sasser was born June 9, 1924 in Hydro, Oklahoma to Marvin and Ethel (Murray) Sasser. He passed away March 1, 2007 at Cheyenne, Oklahoma at the age of 82 years, 8 months, and 22 days. Melvin's mother passed away when he was 3 years old and he lived in an orphanage in Arizona for a few years. Marvin later married Molly Teakle and Melvin returned to Oklahoma where they raised him. Melvin attended school at Square Top before going to work for the Tracy family on their farm. Melvin enlisted with the US Army and served his country during World War II. After his discharge he moved to Wellington, Texas wherre he met Frances Elizabeth Souder and they were married on February 26, 1943. Melvin and Frances lived for several years in the Wellington area before moving to Cheyenne area where they farmed and also owned and operated one of the largest dairy herds in the state of Oklahoma. Melvin was an antique auto enthusiast and enjoyed doing restoration work on antique cars and tractors. He was a member of Sayre Congregation of Jehovah's Witness. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, his stepmother, 21 brothers, 2 sisters and a half brother. Survivors include 1 daughter Sandra Driver and husband, Ronnie Driver, of Elk City, Oklahoma; 2 sons: Don Sasser, of Cheyenne, Oklahoma and Lindy Sasser and wife Connie, of Reydon, Oklahoma; 8 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 1 sister Delores, of New Mexico; 1 brother Joe Dean Sasser, of Waco, Texas; 1 stepsister Dorothy Sharp of Claude, Texas and a host of other relatives and friends. Interment in the Cheyenne Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral service.
