J.C. Stockton was well known in a large number of people in Carnegie and surrounding country. He with his wife moved here from their farm 1 miles northwest of Anadarko, in 1907 and with the exception of a short time has lived here since. In 1868 he was united in marriage to Martha Walker and until his death has been a faithful husband and loving father. He leaves a wife and three sons and two daughters, two brothers and one sister. He professed a Hope in Christ in 1881 and joined the Missionary Baptists. He came to Oklahoma and Indian Territory in 1891 and settled a few miles northwest of Anadarko in 1901. He was a soldier in the Confederate army and was a member of the C.S.A. camp at this place. The funeral services were preached by Rev. Mitchell and the remains were laid to rest in the Carnegie cemetery Sunday afternoon.
