Siler was born January 20, 1919 in rural Caddo County, Oklahoma to C.L. and Martha Siler. The family soon moved to Enid, Oklahoma where his father worked as an automobile dealer and grocer. He graduated from Enid High School and recieved his Bachelor of Music degree from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1941. He attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where he earned his Bachelor of Divinity degree. He enlisted in the US Army during World War II and served in the European theater as a combat Chaplain. At the war's end, he remained in Germany to participate in a program to restore the morale of German children. Upon returning to the United States in 1946, he continued his career as a Southern Baptist Minister, serving in pastorates in Covington, OK, Plano, Texas, Uvalde, Texas, Wichita, Kansas, and Lawton, Oklahoma. He also served as President of the Kansas-Nebraska and Oklahoma Southern Baptist Conventions, as well as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Oklahoma Baptist University. At the National level he served on the Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee, Foreign Mission Board, and Christian Life Commision. He recieved an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1976. After his retirement from the ministry in 1984, he served as an estate counselor for the Baptist Foundation of Oklahoma and continued preaching. In 1941 he married Evelyn Jane Bryant of Enid, who remained his faithful wife for sixty two years until his death. He is survived by his daughter Karen Daugherty and her husband Elbert of Houston, Texas, and son Tim Siler and his wife Sherry of Edmond Oklahoma. He is also survived by grandchildren Jane Blasberg and husband Dave of Houston, Texas, grandson Mark Howard of Houston, Texas, grandsons Ryan and Nathan Siler of Edmond, Oklahoma, and great grandchildren Kelsey and Logan Blasberg of Houston. Having been raised as the son of an automobile dealer, his primary avocation was automobiles and stock car racing. He was also skilled in stained glass creation and photography. Although known as a great preacher and church builder, his true calling was personal ministry. His sweet spirit and devotion will be remembered far beyond his passing. Services are 2pm Wed., Jan., 8, 2003 at First Baptist Church Louise Pritchard Chapel in OKC. Burial at Memorial Park Cemetery. GUARDIAN NORTH 11600 N.
