Smith Funeral rites were held last Thursday, November 1, for A.F. Smith, Empire, Calif., who for many years was a resident of the Cement and Cyril area. The service was held at 1:30 p.m. at the Franklin and Dawson Funeral Home in Modesto, Calif., with the Rev. Cecil Brotherton, pastor of the Empire Church of Christ, and Rev. Elbert Garretson of Hughson, Calif., officiating. Burial was the in the Hughson cemetery. Wayne Smith returned to Cyril Monday from Empire, after attending services for his father. Austin Smith, Cement, also attended the funeral but remained in California until a later date. Albert F. Smith was born April 19, 1880 in Sherman, Texas and died Sunday, October 28, in a Modesto, Calif., hospital. His last illness was brief, although he had been in failing health since he suffered his first stroke two years ago. He was married October 31, 1900 to Minnie Mullens, at Montague, Texas. In 1917 he moved his family to Oklahoma and farmed in the Cyril-Cement area until 1946, when he moved to Empire. Survivors include his wife, Minnie, of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Vergie Francen and Mrs. Faye Ihrig, both of Empire, Calif.; and Mrs. Hazel Cox, Modesto, Calif.; six sons, Bennie, Elmer and Carl, all of Empire, Calif.; Cline of Hughson, Calif.; Wayne of Cyril; and Austin of Cement; also 27 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Caddo County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/caddo/caddo.html
