All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Pleasant Hill-Analy O'Leary FH--Sebastopol CA Santa Rosa Press Democrat Published on June 14, 1995 THOMAS SMITH Thomas Lawrence "Lonnie" Smith, a produce truck driver for 47 years, died May 21 at his Santa Rosa home. He was 86. Smith was born in Binger, Okla., and worked as a cowboy riding fence and herding cattle on the ranch of his grandmother, Melinda Ann McNealy Smith, in Clayton, N.M. His stepdaughter, Billie Roberts of Santa Rosa, recalled one of Smith's favorite memories was listening to his grandmother read the Bible. Another favorite story was of his horse saving him by taking him home after he got lost in a blizzard. He moved from New Mexico to Colorado, still in ranching, before moving to California. Roberts said Smith's stories were like trips back through time to the frontier. Smith married Avis Glo Able in Vacaville in 1928. He married his second wife, Clifford Jessie Smith, in 1960. He lived in Sonoma County for nearly 70 years and delivered produce to local markets as a self-employed driver. In addition to his second wife and stepdaughter, Smith is survived by his sons, Peter Smith of Fulton, Franklin Levon Smith of Sebastopol and Earl Eugene Smith of Santa Rosa; daughter, Norma Wiltermood of Santa Rosa; stepchildren, Winford Brown of Windsor and Linda Wade of Fulton; sisters, Clara Curtis and Fern Davenport of Texas, and Gladys Stokes of Redwood City; 16 grandchildren; 16 stepgrandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 22 step-great-grandchldren; one great-great- grandchild; and a nephew. A memorial service was held at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Sebastopol.
