Swarts W.K. Swarts was born in Ohio on 7 January 1834 and died at the home of his son, F.F. Swarts, in Carnegie, September 29. The immediate cause of death was influenza. Mr. Swarts was well known in Carnegie and in the Alden country, where he lived for some time. He was well liked by all who knew him-- a man of honor, doing unto all others as he would be done by. He was marriee to Miss Eliza Acklin, in Ohio, and to this union was born ten children--seven of whom are living-- F.E. and W.C. of Carnegie, W.E. of Redding, Calif., Mrs. Jennie Ewing and Mrs. Mary Kidney of Grant City, Mo., Mrs. Lizzie Davis of Allendale, Mo., and Mrs. Annie McKim of Moravia, Ia. He enlisted in Co. A, 60 Reg. Ohio Vol. Inf. and served his country during the civil war. Short services were held at the Swarts residence by Rev. T. Mulder. The pall bearers were old soldiers and a large number of the Blue and Gray followed the remains to the depot.
