All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Lawton Constitution 10 Dec 2003 Jewel Walter Thompson APACHE — Funeral for Jewel Walter Thompson, 80, Apache, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Sara Bodenstein, pastor, officiating. Mr. Thompson died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Apache, under direction of Crews Funeral Home. He was born Sept. 24, 1923, in Apache, to Hugh Walter and Murtie D. Marr Thompson. He graduated from Apache High School, and was a farmer and truck driver. He married Verla Mae Rutledge on Dec. 1, 1945, in Apache. He was employed by the Dolese Brothers in 1958, and retired in 1986. He served on the Apache City Council for 20 years, and was mayor of Apache for six years. He was president of the Apache Lions Club and region chairman. He was a lifelong member of Apache First United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities. He was selected as a "Town Treasure" for 2003 by the Apache Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture. Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, Michael and his wife, Linda, Houston; a daughter, Becky Skinner, Apache; three grandchildren: Megan Thompson and Colin Thompson and his wife, Elizabeth, all of Houston; and Micah Skinner, Waco, Texas; two sisters: Rita Aldworth, Las Vegas; and Jean Steadman and her husband, Harold, Georgetown, Texas.
