VELMA VEAL APACHE -- Services for Velma Bennett Veal, 83, of Apache were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 2002 in Apache's First Pentecostal Holiness Church with Bud Jones, pastor, officiating. Mrs. Veal was born October 28, 1918 south of Eakly to James Preston and Lizzie Pearl (Howard) Clinton and passed away Friday, June 7, 2002 at her home in Apache after a lengthy illness. On November 6, 1937 she was united in marriage to Dee Bennett. He preceded her in death in 1981. In 1991, she met and married Ervia Veal. He passed away in 1996. She was also preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, and three sisters. Mrs. Veal attended Banner and Eakly schools. She and her first husband farmed and ranched northeast of Fort Cobb for many years. She loved farm life, especially gardening. Her hobbies were all kinds of crafts and quilt making, most of which she gave to relatives and friends. She and her husband retired from farming in 1971 and lived in Fort Cobb where she worked in Ratliff's Super Market for several years, retiring in 1980. Mrs. Veal received her nurse's aid certificate from the Caddo-Kiowa Vo- Tech school in Fort Cobb and worked for the elderly as a caregiver for a number of years. She was a member of the Apache Senior Citizens Nutrition Center where she enjoyed being with friends and playing cards. She was a member of the Apache Pentecostal Holiness Church and attended regularly when her health permitted. Survivors include her brother, James (Kutch) Clinton of Carnegie, several nephews and nieces and a host of friends.
