West Allen G., age 91, of OKC, OK, was born February 11, 1911 on the family farm west of Verden, OK to George and Opha Allen West. He died June 24, 2002 in OKC. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma Law School with a Bachelor of Law degree in 1940 and was awarded the Juris Doctor in 1970. Allen supported himself in college as an advertising clerk for the Daily Oklahoman where he met his wife, Marguerite B. Buchwald. They were married July 17, 1938 and lived in Oklahoma City where Allen practiced law. He then applied to the FBI, but World War II intervened. He enlisted in the Navy in 1942 as an Intelligence Officer and was stationed in Cuba and Hawaii. He was discharged from the Navy as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1945. He practiced law until the FBI employed him in 1947. In Florida he investigated and arrested jewel thief Murf-the-Surf. He retired from the FBI in 1974. In 1987 he returned home to Oklahoma and enjoyed traveling and visiting his children. He was a member of the Highland Baptist Church, and a member of the Masonic Lodge as 32nd degree Freemason. He traced his genealogy to the 13th century. His wife Marguerite, his parents, and infant brother, two sisters, Veda Fait and Mildred Cory and a younger brother, Kenneth West preceded him in death. Survivors include: son, Gerald R. West of Cincinnati, OH; daughter, Marilyn Pinkerton and spouse, Tom, of Kalamazoo, MI; daughter, Janet West-Abrams and spouse, Larry, of NYC, NY; son Rand West and spouse, Kate, of Sitka, Alaska; daughter, Sharon K. West of OKC, OK; five grandchildren; and other family members and friends. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 27th at the Bill Merritt Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Oklahoma City. Published in the Oklahoman on 6/26/2002.
