Jeff Hurlbut officating. Interment will follow in the Cheyenne Cemetery, Cheyenne, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of the Martin Funeral Home of Elk City. Memorials in Mr. Wesners name may be made to the J.D. Wesner Memorial Fund at the Security State Bank of Cheyenne which will continue to benefit organizations in the Cheyenne area. John Donovan Wesner was born February 12, 1918 at Foss, Oklahoma to John Miles and Lora Irene (Rogers) Wesner and passed away Friday, February 6, 2006 at the age of 87. He moved to Cheyenne with his family in 1932 and graduated from Cheyenne High School. He continued his education at Southwestern State College, Oklahoma A&M and the University of Oklahoma. Donovan started his baking career in 1939 while attending college and was married to Hazel Laura Hill on December 31, 1941 at Sayre. He served his country in the US Army Air Corps from 1941 to 1945 during WWII. After his discharge Donovan returned to the Security State Bank of Cheyenne where he has continuously worked. He was Executive Vice President, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors and Operations Officer. He was also the Board Chairman of the Cheyenne Housing Authority in Cheyenne. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, past treasurer of the Roger Mills County Red Cross, served as President of the Cheyenne School Board for over 15 years and a member of the Cheyenne First Baptist Church. In 1989, Donovan received the American Red Cross National Disaster relief Campaign award, 19911 he was honored as Southwestern Oklahoma Development Authority's Outstanding Older Worker Employee of Roger Mills County and received a Certificate of Appreciation from the GFC-OK Sorosis Club. In May of 1992, he received the Kiwanis Club 50 Year Award for dedicated service, in 2002 waas inducted into the Western Oklahoma Hall of Famed, in 2004, received the Dean D. Krober Volunteer of the year and in 2005 received a Certificate of Appreciation Award from the Masonic Lodge #133. He was honored by the City of Cheyenne with the J.D. Wesner Appreciation Day with recognition by the Oklahoma Governors Office and the State Legislature. Donovan coached Little League when his children were young and was an avid golfer and hunter. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, an infant son, Stevew Ray Wesner and 2 brothers, Brian and Dalew Wesner. Survivors incflude 4 children: Donna Elledge and her husband Frank of Chickasha, Oklahoma, John Wesner of Irving, Texas, Edwad Wesner and his wife Ellen of Reydon and Keith Wesner of Cheyenne, 8 grandchildren, Jonathan Elledge, Lucinda Elledged, John Dustin Wesner and his wife Jennifer, Kelly Wayne Wesner, Sara Dawn Wesner, Chauncey Mack Wesner, Kyle Wayne Wesner, Lane Allen Wesner and 1 great granddaughter, Ava Dawn Wesner, 1 sister, Ireene Rowlett of Clinton and 1 brother, Leon Wesner of Tulsa.
