She was 90 years old. She was born June 30, 1916 in Binger, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Jim and Bessie Wood and was the eldest of eleven children. Lillie's family moved to Arvin, California when she was almost seven years old. Lillie and four of her siblings were born in Binger, Oklahoma, the remaining six children were born in the Arvin and Bakersfield area. Lillie and her family settled in Old River and there they remained. Lillie worked hard to help her parents raise their large family. She was a good student, but her first love was sewing. Lillie was a professional seamstress for forty years. She was never seen in public without her hat, gloves, pretty dress, and high heels. She was a good advertisement for her craft. In 1998 Lillie was preceeded in death by her husband of forty-one years Robert Woods. She is survived by brothers, James Wood, Ed Wood, Olen Wood, Bobby Wood, and sisters, Beulah Hughes, and Frances Ross. Lillie was baptized at the Panama Daybreak Baptist Church when she was 85 years old. That made her very proud. Lillie was able to live alone until she was 90 years old, with a little help from her family and friends. The last five months of her life she resided at Glenwood Gardens Skilled Nursing Facility. Visitation will be on the day of service. Chapel services will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2007, 10:00 a.m. at Greenlawn Southwest Memorial Chapel. She will be missed!
