All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== ::Pioneer Cemetery--Graham TX Glass, Ray Eugene "Gene" 1916 - 2005 Ray Eugene "Gene" Glass, 88, a retired oil operator, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, in Kerrville. Graveside service: 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23, in Pioneer Cemetery in Graham. Memorials: Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Suite 1700, Chicago, Ill. 60601. Mr. Glass was born in Benton County, Ark., on Feb. 15, 1916. He was the last of six children born to Henry and Sally Glass. His family moved to El Reno, Okla., where Gene attended school. After graduating from El Reno High School, Gene attended Oklahoma City University on a basketball scholarship. After college, Gene got a job with Lightening Torpedo Co. and later with Hughes Tool Co. While working in Wichita Falls with Hughes Tool, Gene met Joan Rankin. In August 1941, Gene and Joan were married and remained so for the next 62 years. In 1949, Gene was hired by Zero Hour Bomb Co. and the family moved to Tulsa, Okla. The company eventually became Zebco Spinning Reel Co. In 1954, Gene and his family moved to Graham to become partners with Ben Rankin, his father-in-law, and Ed Karper. Gene and Ed were to remain business partners for 30 years. In 1983 Gene and Joan retired from the oil business and moved to Kerrville. Survivors: Daughters, Linda Mitchell of Bandera and her husband, Robert, and Gena Johnson of Fort Worth and her husband, Randall; grandchildren, Kimberly Reeser of Mozambique, Joanna Anderson of Nashville, Tenn., and Grant Johnson, Allison Johnson and Kelly Johnson, all of Fort Worth; and four great-grandchildren.
