Obit of Horn, Michael "Darren" - Canadian County, Oklahoma Submitted by: Gene Phillips 10 Nov 2004 Return to Canadian County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/canadian/canadian.html ========================================================================== USGENWEB NOTICE Copyright. All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Daily Oklahoman 1 Aug 2002 Horn, Michael "Darren" Michael 'Darren' Horn, 29, went to be with his Lord July 30, 2002. Darren left this life surrounded by family and friends after a three year battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Jenny and son, Josh of the home; his parents, Fred and Joann Horn of El Reno, OK; brother, Dustin Horn of Littleton, CO; father and mother-in-law, Bob and Marti Salmons of OKC; brother-in-law, Jim Salmons and his wife, Diane of OKC; and many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Herbert and Jean (Beaty) Davis. Darren fulfilled a childhood dream in becoming a firefighter for the Oklahoma City Fire Department in 1995. His first call as a rookie was responding to the OKC Bombing. He spent the majority of his career at Station 20 at S.W. 29th and Council on the Blue Shift. He completely enjoyed his time serving as a firefighter with his fellow workers. Due to his condition, he retired on December 1, 2001. Darren married Jenny Salmons, May 25, 1996, in El Reno. They have a child together, Josh, born in November of 2000. Darren graduated from UCO with an Industrial Safety Degree in 1998. Darren was a unique person, in that he always wanted to help and do for others before himself. He loved his wife, son, and family, but he always knew Christ was first in his life. Even in his last days, his concern was for his family and friends and that their faith in Christ was secure. He wanted everyone to know that trusting Jesus Christ as his Savior at the age of 8 was the best decision he had ever made. The family would like to thank God for placing friends in our lives to make this time easier on us. We would like to thank the Oklahoma City Fire Department for their support over the past three years. Also thanks to Dr. Kenneth Blake, Mercy at Home and all of their staff. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 3, 2002, at 10:00 a.m., at Council Road Baptist Church, 2900 N. Council Road, in Okla. City, with the interment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Minco, OK. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society in memory of Darren.
