God needed a tree trimmer and gardener and called him home August 5, 2005 at his home in El Reno. He enjoyed family gatherings, coon hunting, trimming trees, working in his yard, gardening and just sitting on his front porch. His garden was always the finest in the neighborhood. He was especially proud of his cabbage, okra, onions, tomatoes and taters. In spite of dropping out of school in the fourth grade to work on the family farm, he was blessed with a gift of common sense and intelligence that allowed him to build a successful career at Asplundh Tree Expert Company. He retired as a general foreman after training hundreds of young men and teaching them a strong work ethic, which he demonstrated every day of his life. Lonzo trained coon dogs and spent many Friday and Saturday nights chasing through fields and creeks all over central Oklahoma, following his barking dogs to the next big treed coon so he could yell ' knock em out John'. Lonzo was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. His lap was always filled by kids who liked to climb on him or roll him around on the floor and rough him up. He is survived by his wife Lola of the home, son James Ivey and wife Sue of Moore, daughter Nadine Martin of Okla. City, daughter Debbie Wilcoxin and husband Danny of El Reno, and daughter Lonna Mowles and husband Mike of Mustang as well as 7 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. He was a strong but gentle man who never shied away from a hard days work. Everyone who knew Lonzo will greatly miss him and his special laugh and smile. Special thanks to the staff at Mustang Manor and Heritage Assisted Living Center for giving him loving, compassionate care and showing him a good time while he fought to recover from a stroke. Graveside services will be Monday, August 8, at 10:00 AM at El Reno Cemetery.
