AND El Reno American, (El Reno, Canadian Co, Oklahoma) 13 August, 1942, page 1, col 1 Ed Lyman Rites Held Wednesday '89er Died Monday Morning Following Fall From Building Funeral rites were conducted on Wednesday afternoon for Edwin E Lyman, pioneer El Reno citizen, who died in a local hospital Monday morning from injures [sic] sustained when he suffered a paralytic stroke while sitting on a ledge at the front of the Tribune building and fell to the sidewalk below. Mr Lyman was serving as a special police officer for the city at the time of his death. He was a retired Rock Island switchman and had operated a grocery store here for a few months following his 30 years with the railroad. He was born in Missouri on Jan 20, 1884, and came to El Reno with his parents during the opening of 1889. He roomed at 211 1/2 South Rock Island, which adjoins the Tribune building. Looking for a cool place during the afternoon, Sunday, he walked onto the roof of the Tribune building and sat down in the shade of the front ledge. About an hour later he was seen to fall off the building, sustaining a fractured skull, jaw and arm. His left side was paralyzed and since he had suffered a stroke last April, it was presumed that another one had stricken him, causing him to lose consciousness and fall from the building. Mr Lyman has been one of the leaders of the El Reno Eagles lodge for a number of years, serving one term as prsident. Members of the order conducted their ritual at the grave. He is survived by his former wife, Mrs Elizabeth Lyman, a daughter, Mrs Helen Johnson, a sister, Mrs Ernest Hodgkinson, and two grandchildren, Gary and Gale Edward Johnson, all of El Reno. Rev E H Grant was in charge of the funeral services which were held at the First Christian church and interment was made in the El Reno Cemetery. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Canadian County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/canadian/canadian.html
