While she can be remembered for her spunk and athleticism with the El Reno softball team, her work with the VFW Auxiliary and Jolly Workers, and 40 years a respected antiques dealer, Opal was perhaps known best as the caretaker of her family and friends. She loved to quilt, and did so with pleasure and precision. She loved to go to garage sales and antiquing, and she did with pleasure and wisdom. She said the best vacation of her life was in the 1940s when she and her husband Jess, and friends Roy and Melba Schulz, hopped on motorcycles loaded down with camping gear, and rode and camped their way down old Route 66, over the mountains and through the desert all the way to California and back. But while she loved all these things, she is remembered most for a coffeepot that seemed never to be turned off, and a door that was always open to family and friends. Being in the kitchen with Opal was a haven of peace and security. It was the hub of the family and their love. And it often included the fresh food Opal loved to cook especially her fresh fruit pies and cobblers, and amazing cakes. Opal was gifted with a knack for knowing when to listen and when to speak. And she did both in the heart of her home kitchen, and filled that heart with her unique and warm sense of love and grace. Opal was preceded in death by her parents, by her brothers John, Raymond, Wayne, Jack, Emmit and Vincent, and her husband of 61 years, Jess. She is survived by her son Mac and his fiancée Chern of Oklahoma City; her daughter Joy Guile and husband Gary; sisters Juanita Slocum, Ferne Burris and husband Gene; and her brother Carl, all of El Reno. Also her sisters in law Helen and Betty; her grandsons Jay Oyler, and Mike Wright and wife Mary; her granddaughters Julie Blose and husband Don, Susan Parrott, and Jamie Pratt and husband James; her great grandchildren Faith, Matthew, Amy, David, and Justin Blose, Garrett and Jacob Wright, Adison Opal Parrott, and Mikayla and Sydney Pratt. Also, nephew Louis Graves and wife Cathy, numerous other nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and special caretakers Eileen Scott, Billie Mirth, Ruth and Harry.
