Lawrence A. Preston passed away December 10, 2002, at his home in Piedmont. He was born March 23, 1913, at Richland, Oklahoma, and was a 1930 graduate of Yukon High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1945 on a minesweeper in the South Pacific. After the war, he operated his own bulk fuel plant for Magnolia Petroleum Company, and later worked 23 years for the U.S. Postal Service as rural letter carrier for Piedmont. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Gertie Preston, and brothers Ashel and Arlin of Oklahoma City. He is survived by his wife, Mildred, of the home; two sisters, Blanche Wooldridge and Letha Knost of Oklahoma City; two sons, Larry A. Preston of Newton, Kansas, and Paul A. Preston of Edmond, Oklahoma; a daughter, Marilyn Lucas, of Wichita Falls, Texas; and by seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. A wake service will be held at Yanda & Son Funeral Home in Yukon at 7 p.m. Friday, December 13. Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Catholic Church, Yukon, with interment at Resurrection Cemetery on Northwest Expressway in Oklahoma City.
