A private service will be held in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made to Lovejoy Hospice, 939 S.E. Eighth St., Grants Pass, OR 97526. He was born March 17, 1922, in El Reno, Okla. In 1941, he graduated from San Jose High School in California. In 1945, in California, he married Janie Jannelle Hightower, who died in 1997. He built a home in Rogue River in 1981, and moved there from Visalia, Calif., in 1995. Mr. Rayfield was a billing clerk with Southern Oregon Railroad for more than 23 years. After retirement, he operated Rayfield Machinery in Cupertino, Calif., for a few years. He also worked for several other businesses related to purchasing electrical supplies and manufacturing in California and Oregon. During World War II, he was a pharmacist’s mate first class in the U.S. Navy. He also served as a hospital corpsman at the Naval Hospital in Oakland, Calif., during the Korean War. Mr. Rayfield was a member of the Rogue River Church of Christ, the Grange and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed reading and John Wayne western movies. Survivors include two daughters, Lila Spiritwalker, Rogue River, and Mary Jane Rayfield, Anaconda, Mont.; a brother, Charles, in Texas; six sisters, Pauline Roundtree, in California, Jody Corso, in South Carolina, Katie Sieg, Corvallis, Neva Louise Rasmussen, in Arizona, and Jeannie Herrschkraft and Linda Millay, both in California; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
