Smith and resident past 21 years died at 4:04 p.m. on Saturday at Jane Phillips Medical Center. A Rosary will be said at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday in the Memory Chapel of the Arnold Moore Funeral Residence. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday in St. John Catholic Church. Father Steven E. Austin will be the celebrant. Dedication of the grave, committal prayers and final rites will be directed in the Memorial Park Cemetery by the Arnold Moore Funeral Service. Memorials have been established with the American Cancer Society and the American Lung Association. Friends who care may send gifts to the American Cancer Society or American Lung Association, % Mrs. Kathy Leeper, Post Office Box 1094, Bartlesville, Oklahoma 74005. Mrs. Betty Smith will lie in state in the Drawing Rooms of the Arnold Moore Funeral Service where friends may call for visitation on Tuesday evening and until she is removed to the church on Thursday morning. A native of Canadian County Oklahoma, Betty D. Merveldt was born April 18, 1929 in El Reno. She was the daughter of the late Ferd and Nell Margaret (Smith) Merveldt. She was reared and completed her education in El Reno and graduated with the Senior Class of 1946 from the El Reno High School. She continued her education at William Woods College, Fulton, Missouri and later at Oklahoma A.&M. College, Stillwater where she graduated in l950. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She and Donald Lloyd Smith were united in marriage on September 2, 1950 at Okarche, Oklahoma in Holy Trinity Catholic Church. They made their home in Tulsa where Mr. Smith was employed with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. His job took the family to various communities including Nowata, Oklahoma City, Muskogee and to Bartlesville in December of l954 for two years. They later had residences in Houston, Texas, Washington D.C., Kansas City, Missouri and St. Louis, Missouri. Following their retirement in l982 at St. Louis, they returned to Bartlesville to make their home. Mrs. Smith was a devoted wife and mother, active in St. John Catholic Church. She was active as a volunteer for Bartlesville Community Center for 18 years and was an active member of the Pi Beta Phi Alumni. Surviving are her husband, Donald L. "Don" Smith, of the home; three sons, Donald Michael Smith and wife, Susan, Austin, Texas, James Gary Smith and wife, Mary and Mark Lloyd Smith and wife, Rozann of Plano, Texas; seven grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Doris Kastner, Bartlesville.
