The States family moved to Alva in 1962, where Ben called home for 33 years. Family said he made the move to Norman, "The Big City," as he called it, in 1996 and that was where the country boy who learned to live in the big city met and married his wife, Kris Wade, on May 15, 1998. He is survived and will be greatly missed by his family which includes his wife Kris; stepchildren Ronnie and Jordie of the home; stepmother Emma States of Norman; sisters Joretta Johnson and husband Bill of Midwest City, Wynell Hill and husband Tom of Oklahoma City and Bevenda Birchfield of Longview, Wash.; Aunt Nola Wilkinson of Norman; his five children Emily, Chealsey, Dakota, Austin and Seth; and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws. Ben never met a stranger, his family said. "If he only met you once, you were his friend for life. He was a man of few words, great ethics and a huge heart. Family and friends meant everything to him," they said. He was employed at the Norman Veterans Center as a PCA. He had great respect for his co-workers and the residents of the center. Ben's wishes were to be cremated. There will be a burial of his ashes at the Alva Cemetery at a later date. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Canadian County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/canadian/canadian.html
