He was born August 6, 1918, in El Reno, OK. He attended Classen High School where he played on the state championship basketball team, Oklahoma Military Academy and graduated from the University of Oklahoma, where he was initiated in the Kappa Sigma fraternity. In WWII, he served in the US Navy and retired as a Commander from the Naval Reserve. Rex was a past president of NW Kiwanis Club, a member of the Oklahoma City Rotary, Oklahoma City Men's Dinner Club and Crown Heights Christian Church where he was an Elder Emeritus. He also served on the boards of the YMCA Camp and Oklahoma Christian Home. He owned Rex Playground Equipment. He was preceded in death by his parents, R.E. and Ella Walters. Survivors include his wife, Maribeth Walters; brother, Jack Walters and his wife, Jeane, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Wally & Jessica Reed; sons, Dale Walters and his wife, Elaine, and John Walters, and his wife, Marilyn; grandchildren, Karen and Julie Walters, Brooke and Eric Plumlee, and Lyle and Zack Walters; and seven nieces and nephews. Memorial gifts in his honor may be made to the Oklahoma Christian Home in Edmond, OK. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, December 17, 2002 at the Crown Heights Christian Church.
