Couch enlisted for service in the Civil War on May 26, 1861 at Sherman, Grayson Co., Texas. He mustered in to the 11th Texas Calvary, Co., C on June1, 1861. He was 22 , unarmed and without a horse while in the service of the state. He was wounded at the battle of Murfreesboro, Tenn. and returned to duty prior to the April 30, 1863 Muster Roll. He was a teamster on muster rolls dating from September 1, 1863 to February 29, 1864. In 1913 he was a resident of the Confederate Home in Ardmore, Carter Co., Oklahoma. He filed for a pension on July 23, 1915 and it was approved on Oct. 7, 1915. (File-#1957). He stated on his application that he was 76yrs. old; born in Arkansas; and a resident of Carter Co. for 35 years. He died in 1918 and is bured in the Rosehill Cemetery in Ardmore, Oklahoma.
