Durwood--BOB ARNOLD is taking a census of the town today to determine whether or not we have a large enough population to incorporate. DR. W. A. FRANKS and family left this morning; he may locate at Sulphur. R. L. PRICE has sold his residence at this place to FRANK SIFT. Dr. L. K. WEST will engage in the livery business here. W. G. JOHNSON is here from Coalgate. PROF. C. E KING has moved to Italy, Texas. R. L. PRIVE left this morning for his future home at Sulphur. Provence--J. H. ARNOLD is quite sick. Russett--G. W. HENDRIX has returned from a trip to Tishomingo and Reagan. C. P. LIPSCOMB’s little son GRADY is quite ill. Items Workmen are busy today making preparations for putting in the street lights. The electric company has word today that the necessary equipment for putting in the lights have been shipped from the factory. LEE MCCOY and W. C. December 3, 1899 Denison, Texas, Dec. 2--Another lot of movers passed through the city yesterday morning enroute from Mill Creek in the Territory, to a point near Pottsboro. The outfit consisted of fifteen wagons and six families, all of whom will locate near Pottsboro and engage in farming. Illicit Distillers in Hoc Deputy U. S. Marshal JAMES B. DAVIS arrived here Saturday morning at 2:00 from Colbert, having in custody, BILL SMITH, HAMP WILLIS, I. N. HADDOX, and JOHN WRIGHT. … Deputy Davis, who is a trained revenue officer, having served in that capacity in Tennessee and who is well up on the tricks of the moonshiners in his native heath, has worked for the more than three months on this case. The first intimation he had that illicit distilling was being carried on was several months ago when on a charge of assault with intent to kill he arrested BRUMLEY who lived on a boat on Red River and found in his possession an unusual quantity of meal. This find coupled with the fact that Brumley was related to some Tennessee moonshiners gave him a starting point… The moonshiners at last became so bold that people could not hunt stock in the bottoms and only a few days ago JACK LANCE who was cow hunting in the bottoms was run out at the point of a Winchester. Last Saturday with a posse composed of JACK LANCE, TOM HIGHTOWER, JOHN ANDERSON, WALTER DUCKETT, JOHN HOUSE, and BOB HOPKINS, Deputy Davis entered the Red River bottoms, five miles east of Kemp… Items DREW ORPHAN, the Negro shot in east town last Tuesday night FENNOIL, died of his wounds yesterday. TOMBERLIN vs. EDGAR TOMBERLIN Found Dead in Bed Durant, Dec. 2--News has just reached here that LEONARD MAHERRY, a single man aged about 35 years, was found at his house, two miles east of her last night, where he lived alone and cultivated land belonging to J. J. GARDNER. When found, he was in bed with part of his clothes on and he had $60 in his pockets. … showed no marks of violence and it is thought he died from heart failure. He was well liked in the community and had no known relatives. BUMPAS from south Texas is here visiting his brother W. H. BUMPAS. Like many other good Texas people, Mr. Bumpas is thinking of locating in Ardmore. Marietta--S. VAN ZANDT of Comanche, I. T. has bought the Marietta hotel and is thoroughly refurnishing same. MRS. HARPER and MISS ANNIE HOWARD of Thackerville were here yesterday. Bob--GRANDMA JONES, who has been quite sick for some time, is improving. REV. J. W. WOODS is up again after an illness of several days. Our school, under the management of PROF. S. P. MCKNIGHT, is progressing nicely. Overbrook--MR. FOSTER of Krum, Texas is here visiting T. T. TAYLOR and family. J. K. PACE of Tioga, Texas was here last night. G. W. WINKER of Teller is here today. LON COMSTOCK, a Teller merchant, was here this morning. J. B. MULLENS has opened a new stock of groceries. G. W. HENDRIX and BUD E. MULLENS have purchased the stock of general merchandise of W. B. DAMERON and will take possession Dec. 15. Raysville--CHARLES JONES has returned from the Choctaw Nation. J. J. WINTER of Ardmore has taken charge of the blacksmith shop. The funeral services of MRS. I. T. WAIDE of Wynnewood were held yesterday morning at that place by REV. A. J. WORLEY. The deceased was a sister of MRS. M. L. GARRETT of our city who was summoned there last Friday morning. GARDNER is in receipt of a letter from the Fire Extinguisher Manufacturing company of Chicago stating that he chemical engine and supplies purchased by the city of Ardmore from them some time past was shipped December 1. Healdton Happenings Healdton, Dec. 2--The week has been warm and spring like with little or no news. DR. GORDON is suffering from rheumatism. JIM HIGDON of Ardmore was here. WILL HEALD is home from school in Wapanucka. J. F. HALE of Keller is here today; he will move here in the near future for the benefit of our school. JOHN NORDMAN from Oklahoma is here on a visit to relatives. MISS PEARL PRICE is spending Saturday and Sunday visiting relatives at Dixie. MRS. H. H. O’KELLY has gone to Ardmore. DR. TEAGUE reports a little girl born at the home of Rufus Couch. W. R. INGRAM went to the city yesterday. Antioch Antics Antioch, Dec. 2--W. C. EVERHEART passed through here enroute to Marietta. A. B. ROFF of Ardmore passed through. ED CLARY was down from York on business. ERNEST MCKINNEY has been dangerously ill this week. JIM RANDOL and family are here from Woodford visiting relatives. GOERGE NICHOLS jr and family have moved to Ada. BUD PRICE and family have moved to Ada. PINK COLLINS is out on a visit from Marietta. We are about 25 miles south of the rock quarries, yet the blasts that are shot are distinctly heard at 12 and 6 o’clock. A party was given at the residence of ED QUINSEY Friday night and was enjoyed by all present. School opens up Monday morning and a good attendance is expected. MISS SALLIE MCKINNEY came in this morning from Van Alstyne, Texas after an extended visit. TOM GILLIAM came in from the Cherokee Nation on a business trip.
