Submitted by: Anna Marie (Glennan) Wilson amwilson@brightok.net ------------------------------------------------------------------------- "The Daily Ardmoreite" Wednesday, May 10, 1922 First Ardmore Paper is Found Copy of Daily Advertiser of Thirty Years Ago Told of 24 Pounds of Sugar for One Dollar A relic of the early days of Ardmore is a copy of the "Ardmore Daily Advertiser", claiming as being the first daily paper published in the Indian Territory, embracing an area of 31,000 square miles, is in the possession of Mrs. Arthur Walcott. The date of the paper is May 10, 1892, exactly 30 years ago today. The motto is "Brevity is the Soul of Wit", thus explaining its dimunitive size and urging its advertisers to be brief in their ads. Some familiar names are read including that of Dr. A. E. ADAMS, J.C. THOMPSON, W.B. JOHNSON, Lee CRUCE and others. One particular item which brings back days of the long ago is an ad which reads "24 pounds of sugar for $1." C.B. BRADLEY was editor and publisher.
