Daily Ardmoreite December 5, 1929 (Carter County Pioneer Passes) (James S. Alverson dies at Pernell and body is laid to rest in Ardmore) James S. Alverson Pioneer of Carter County died Wednesday at Pernell. His body was returned to Ardmore and burial took place Thursday afternoon from Harvey Bros. with Rev. Elbert M. Whitwell, Pastor of the First Christian Church, in charge of the services. Bearers of the body were O.W. Anderton, George Evans, Con Kiersey, Hale Dunn, Walter Colbert and Jess Dunn. Alverson was 79 years old. He was one of the real pioneers of this section and was known in the early days as the Wheat King of Southern Oklahoma. His home
