While his death was sudden and unexpected, Don suffered from several chronic illnesses. Don was born on May 18, 1935 in Ardmore, Oklahoma, the son of Bertie Fullington Alexander and Arnold Bonnie Alexander. As a youngster Don moved with his family from Oklahoma to Hastings, Nebraska where his father worked for Swift & Company. He graduated from High School in 1953 and married Sharon Eldred in 1954 in Hastings. His first son Jeffrey was born in 1956 in Lincoln, Nebraska where Don had enrolled at the University of Nebraska. He earned a BSc. Business Administration degree in 1960. He moved his family to New Jersey in 1960 where his second son, Matt, and daughter Elizabeth (Betsy), were born. Don and his family moved several times from New Jersey to upstate New York, Fairfield Connecticut, and then immigrated to Canada - living in Montreal, Quebec, Oakville, Ontario, and Victoria, BC. Don had a vibrant and successful career in Computing and Technology and pursued several positions in many companies culminating in becoming the founding President of British Columbia Systems Corporation - the organization that ran all the computers for the Province of BC. After leaving the public service, Don branched out on his own and set out on a career as a successful entrepreneur. In the recession of the mid 1980's Don retired from being an entrepreneur and he moved to Bellevue Washington (Seattle) to be closer to his family - older brother Tex and Tex's wife Doris, sisters Vivian and Barbara, and mother Bertie. It was there that he met Melissa Thompson and they were married in 1996. Don took an active role in raising Melissa's children Elaine and Tom and grandchild Allie. Don had one speed - flat out. He would become interested in things and dive in with both feet. This is evidenced by his career, power boating, music, the study of Law, golf, genealogy, church activities, strata activities, and raising his kids. He was a good and principled man with vast amounts of unconditional love to share, and we will miss him. Don is survived by his wife Melissa; children Jeff (Kristen) Alexander (North Carolina), Matthew (Marina) Alexander (West Vancouver, BC) and Elizabeth (Betsy) (Andrew) Cameron (North Vancouver, BC), step-children Elaine and Tom (TJ) Harrington (Bellevue); sisters Vivian Bissell (Burlington), Elizabeth Grimes (Houston), and Barbara Thompson (Everett); and grand children Jessie and Ross Alexander, Chloe Cameron, Brooke and Courtney Alexander, Bob and Will Ball, and Alexandria Harrington. Preceded in death by his parents and brother LeRoy "Tex" Alexander. Graveside services will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, July 21, 2007 at Greenhills Memorial Cemetery on Gardner Road, aka Burlington City Cemetery, Burlington, WA. Remembrances should be made out to the American Diabetes Association, Everett Office, 2805 Colby Ave., Everett, WA 98201. A reception will follow at the La Conner Seafood & Prime Rib House, 614 S. 1st St., La Conner, WA, from 4:00-6:00 PM.
