'Bill' Blalock Services for Artie L. "Bill" Blalock, 76, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, at Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Gene Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Born April 17, 1925, at Ardmore to Artie Lee Sr. and Helen Virginia Aaron Blalock, he died Feb. 21, 2002, at a veterans hospital in Oklahoma City after a heroic battle with myelodysplasia. He was preceded in death by his father; stepmother, Essie Blalock; a sister, Virginia Blalock; two brothers, Harold Blalock and Jimmy Alford; and a great-grandchild. He and the former Elizabeth Speik were married in Hilo, Hawaii. Bill was remarried on Dec. 6, 1974, in Ardmore to Wanda Sue Threlkeld Dillard. Blalock had been a resident of Ardmore for more than 50 years. He served in both the United States Army and Navy during World War II and the Korean conflict. He received these honors: National Defense Service Medal, United States Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, American Defense Theatre Ribbon with one star, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon with three stars, Good Conduct Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon. Bill was retired from Total Refinery where he was an A operator. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and First Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, Thomas Lee Blalock and his wife, Celia, San Jose, Calif.; a daughter, Linda Lou Blalock, San Jose; a son, David Lawton Blalock, Converse, Texas; two stepsons, Harold Dillard Jr. and his wife, Karen, of Tala, and Gary Dillard and his wife, Karen, Asheville, N.C.; a stepdaughter, Carol Sue Grammer, and her husband, Ken, Woodenville, Wash.; his mother, Helen Blalock Alford, Ardmore; three sisters, Iwanna Pifer, and her husband, Ed, Ceres, Calif., Thersa Fay and her husband, Bob, Dahlonega, Ga., Arleta Dovichi and her husband, Lee, Stockton, Calif.; grandchildren, Paul Dillard, Jennifer Dillard, Jason Dillard, Michael Dillard, Sarah Dillard, Amanda Dillard, Christopher Dillard, Ashley Taylor, Skyler Grammer, Natalie Grammer and Cindy Winsett, Tyler and Colin Blalock and six great-grandchildren. Bearers are Lawrence Waller, Albert Topetchy, Eddie Hodge, G.H. Tipps Jr., Carl Weldon and Bob Hurt. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia society.
