Smeets ww2search@hotmail.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Calvin L. Gifford S/N 0-745668 1st LT. Calvin L. Gifford enlisted in Carter County, Oklahoma for WWII. He was a first lieutenant in the 84th squadron, 437th Troop carrier Group, Air Corps. Lt Gifford was a pilot on a C-47 Skytrain. His plane was shot down by flak on 17 September 1944 over Holland and all four crewmembers were killed (pilot, co-pilot, crew chief, radio operator). Crash site is SW of Eindhoven city, Holland. His name was on a list of MIA (missing in action) and he was officialy declared "dead" one year later on 18 September 1945 (US Army count 1 year plus 1 day, after the missing-date). Notification changed in "FOD 18 September 1945" (Finding Of Death). I live near the crash site and have a detailed report. Now we are looking for relatives overseas. Are you able to locate some information for us: obituary, names of surviving family members, so that we can track down a kin from there. Greetings from overseas. Thank you. B. Smeets Holland
