"Cowboy" Martin, 87, passed away Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23, 2006. Funeral: 2 p.m. Saturday at Metropolitan Baptist Church, with Brother Larry Adkisson officiating. Burial: Chico Cemetery. Cleo F. Martin was born Jan. 4, 1919, in Healdton, Okla., to Dave Martin and Margaret Jane Aycox. He was the second child of that union. Later his mother remarried and had three girls and two boys. He was reared by his grandparents, John Aycox and Roxie Ann Miss Sawyer Aycox. He married Emma Lou Robinson in Fort Worth in April 1944. They had one daughter, Carolyn Marie Martin Reaves. Cleo worked for the city of Fort Worth for 39 years, retiring in 1980. He was better known as "Cowboy" at his church, Metropolitan Baptist, with Brother Larry Adkission as their pastor. Thanks to the special people at Community Hospice who took care of him the last few days. He will be so greatly missed by all. He had lots of good friends and one special friend who came to see him every Sunday, Pat Sims. Survivors: Wife of 62 years, Emma Lou Martin; daughter, Carolyn Marie Reaves; brothers, the Rev. Samuel Purkhiser of Crosby and Dennis Purkhiser of Maysville, Okla.; lots of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins; and special cousin, Ellis Aycox.
