Norman Transcript 24 Sep 2003 *Ralph Merkle Ralph Merkle, 87, of Fort Stockton, Texas, died Monday, Sept. 22, in Fort Stockton. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Fort Stockton with the Rev. A.D. Jackson officiating. Burial will follow at East Hill Cemetery. Fort Stockton Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Mr. Merkle was born July 20, 1916. He married Nancy Fewell July 8, 1948, in Ardmore. He served in the Army during World War II and was a retired civil engineer. He moved to Fort Stockton in 1946 and farmed in Balmorhea, Texas, for 20 years. He moved to Dallas and moved back to Fort Stockton in 1968. Mr. Merkle was preceded in death by his daughter, Melinda Kay Merkle Browning. Mr. Merkle is survived by his wife, Nancy Eloise Fewell Merkle of Fort Stockton; daughter, Susan Eloise Merkle of Atlanta; sisters, Priscilla Thomasson of Felton, Calif., and Helen and Elizabeth Merkle of Norman; brother, Joe Merkle of Norman; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
